About the Role

About Traffic Wales

Traffic Wales is the Welsh Government’s traffic information service for the Strategic Road Network in Wales.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Communications Coordinator to provide up-to-date traffic information to the public. You will be an excellent communicator, with skills to create engaging content on social media, and have fantastic interpersonal skills.

As a Communications Coordinator, you will be working on the front line to provide up-to-date information on the condition of Welsh roads. This is a vital role for the service, and we are looking for a confident and creative individual who can work independently.

The nature of our work means that you must be able to work responsively during major events, maintaining a high level of confidentiality and discretion.

The role will require the applicant to work 12-hour shifts on a 4-day on, 4-day off basis to provide cover between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Applicants will also be expected to work overnight on an on-duty rota basis.

  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Welsh languages.

  • Dedicated to accuracy and delivery of tasks in a timely manner.

Qualifications and relevant training
Essential

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs to include English, and Welsh.

Relevant Experience
Essential

  • Familiar with computerised packages i.e. Windows, Excel etc.
  • The ability to translate in Welsh and English
  • Content development and editing skills for social media.
  • Full and clean driving licence.

Skills and specialist knowledge
Essential

  • Proficiency in using digital tools and social media platforms.
  • Understanding of digital communication trends and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate content accurately and effectively between Welsh and English within the context of Cymraeg Clir and Plain English principles.
  • Familiar with Freedom of Information Act and Data Protection Act.
  • An awareness of local and central government structures, along with an appreciation for their communication requirements.

Language requirements
Essential

For this post, the ability to communicate fluently in Welsh and English is essential.
