27 May NMWTRA and the Environment
Protecting the environment and reducing carbon emissions linked to the trunk roads are a priority not just for NMWTRA, but for the welfare of Wales as a whole. There are significant areas of land (Soft Estate) associated with our Strategic Road Network that act as “green corridors” which contain a wide range of habitats supporting a broad diversity of wildlife which also absorb carbon.
NMWTRA’s Environment and Climate Change team manage these areas to maintain and improve them, whilst ensuring Welsh Government’s duty to implement the legislation and policy required to drive the essential changes to address the joint climate and nature emergencies and protect our nature for future generations. As an agency we work together to recognise and play a part in protecting our environment, reducing carbon emissions and helping nature recover.
NMWTRA has implemented a thorough approach to tackling the impact of climate change. The Environmental and Climate Change team also support the agency to tackle the impact of climate change and continue to demonstrate this through improvements to the management of carbon emissions reduction, sequestration and climate change resilience for example, through developing and implementing the organisations climate change strategy which sets out a wider program of priorities and projects which align with Welsh Government, including sustainable land use, environmentally sustainable procurement, and protecting and improving biodiversity.
